Физика микромира. Маленькая энциклопедия
In spite of the members of the Editorial board of this encyclopedia are D.V. Shirkov, S.S. Gershtein, V.I. Grigoriev, A.V. Efremov, G.Ya. Myakishev and N.G. Semashko, the authors collectiv is much larger. It comprises: V.I. Grigoriev, G.Ya. Myakishev, Yu. M. Shirokov, D.N. Zubarev, A.V. Efremov, D.V. Galtsov, V.P. Pavlov, O.I. Zav'yalov, V.D. Kukin, L.G. Landsberg, A.F. Pisarev, L.G. Aslmazov, B.K. Vainshtein, S.S. Gershtein, S.M.. Bilen'kii, A.A. Slavnov, M.I. Kaganov, N.V. Karlov, M.K. Volkov, M.A. Liberman, A.A. Komar, L.B. Okun', Ya. A. Smorodinskii, N. A. Sveshnikov, V.B. Berestetskii, L.I. Ponomarev, V.I. Zakharov, M.A. El'yashevich, G.T. Zatsepin, Yu.S. Kasymov, A.Yu. Smirnov, V.I. Lushchikov, A.I. Lebedev, E.A. Tagirov, B.L. Ioffe, I.Yu. Kobzarev, V.Ya. Fainberg, R.N. Faustov, V.G. Mahan'kov, V.I. Ivanova, E.L. Burshtein, S.V. Iordanskii, L.P. Pitaevskii, D.A. Kirznits, I.D. Novikov, M.Ya. Amus'ya. It is so large, as if divide the total volume of 526 pages to the number of authors, the number of pages /author would be only 11.5 pages, which is a very small quantity. In fact various authors contributed in various ways to this book, which has interesting pages. If you ask me who are the most prolific coauthors, then I shall answer: D.V. Galtsov, V.I. Grigoriev, D.V. Shirkov, S.S. Gershtein, V.P. Pavlov and L.I. Ponomarev, which are well known physicists. But, N.G. Semashko has not contributed at all to this book, in spite of He(She) is a member of the Editorial board. But why the authors of the book has no cited any physicists from nearest former communist countries, such as Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Macedonia, Bulgaria and yet Greece or Finland. As, John Illiopoulos and Thomas Ypsilantis are American physicists, originated from Greece. Only 3 Chinese Physicists were cited throughout the pages of the book and only the American physicist Tisza of Hungarian origin and Russian physicist Kapitza of Romanian origin were cited throughout the book. Could I suppose, that such a great-power mentality led the USSR to its disappearance? In spite of you cite widely Albert Einstein, N.Bohr, the next valued physicists are L. Landau, N.N. Bogolyubov and many other Russian Physicists. Particularly, the Romanian Physicist Stefan Procopiu earlier than Niels Bohr came to the idea that the atom has an magnetic moment and calculated this moment, but his way to the result was absolutely divergent from that by the founder of Quantum theory Niels Bohr. He realized just, making measurements of magnetic moments of lightest molecules, that the atom should also have a magnetic moment and estimated them correctly, in agreement, with quantum Theory postulates, based on the theory of Quanta by Max Plank. From the total number of physicists cited throughout the book (200) you will not found such physicists as Russians: A.A. Sokolov, I.M. Ternov and A.A. Vlasov, while D.D. Ivanenko is cited only once in the connection with his with W.Heisenberg model of Nucleus. But, why the authors of the encyclopedia did not observed, that the same author D.D. Ivanenko in a collaboration with I.Ya. Pomeranchuk (cited also once throughout the book) forwarded the idea of synchrotron radiation in betatrons in 1944, while later his colleagues A.A. Sokolov and I.M. Ternov contributed much (together with J. Schwinger, which is widely cited) to the final shape of the Theory of Synchrotron radiation. It seems, that Prof. Vladimir Ivanovich Grigoriev forgot, that his teacher was ...professor A.A. Sokolov. The book is very readable, of course. It has many interesting pages. For example, I liked one of the last articles, concerning the Atomic Nucleus. I would not recommend to neglect this book, which is very useful for condensed matter physicists, even. During the reading you will find many interesting articles for physicists occupied by crystals, dielectrics , semiconductors, and even for plasma physicists.
